UN System Jobs (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates the website unsystemjobs.org. We are not affiliated with the United Nations or any of its agencies. For privacy-related inquiries, contact us at privacy@unsystemjobs.org.

We run our own instance of Umami, a privacy-first analytics platform. No cookies are used. The following data is collected anonymously:

Pages visited and referring URL
Browser type, operating system, and device type
Approximate country of origin (from IP address — IP addresses are anonymized before storage)
Screen size and language preference

None of this data can identify you personally. IP addresses are one-way hashed and never stored in raw form. Data is retained for 12 months. We do not share analytics data with any third party.

2.2 User accounts (optional)

If you create an account, we collect:

Email address — used for login, optional deadline reminders, and verification
Hashed password — securely stored using bcrypt; we never see your plaintext password
Bookmarks and saved searches — stored to provide your saved items across sessions

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from your account settings page.

2.3 Cookies

We use only essential cookies required for the website to function:

sessionid — Django session cookie, required for keeping you logged in
csrftoken — CSRF protection cookie, required for form security

No tracking, advertising, or third-party cookies are used.

2.4 Data we do NOT collect

Name, address, phone number, or any personal identifiers
Resume / CV or application data
Payment or financial information
Social media accounts
Location tracking (beyond approximate country from IP)
Browsing history outside unsystemjobs.org

3. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

We process your data under the following legal bases, as defined by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f))— anonymous analytics help us improve the service and understand usage patterns without impacting your privacy.
Consent (Art. 6(1)(a))— account creation is entirely optional and requires your explicit consent.
Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b))— if you sign up for email notifications, we process your email address to deliver that service.

4. GDPR compliance statement

UN System Jobs is GDPR compliant.

No unnecessary data is collected. All analytics are anonymous. You have full control over your account data. We do not share data with third parties.

Analytics data: retained for 12 months, then automatically deleted.
Account data: retained until you delete your account. You can do this at any time from your settings page.
Notification preferences: retained as long as your account is active.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. The only external service we use is:

SMTP2GO— used to send transactional emails (verification, notifications). Your email address is transmitted to SMTP2GO solely for message delivery.

Analytics data collected by Umami never leaves our own server.

8. Security measures

All traffic is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS (Let's Encrypt)
Passwords are hashed using bcrypt
Session cookies are marked Secure and HttpOnly
Our server is protected by a firewall allowing only ports 22, 80, and 443
CSRF protection is enforced on all state-changing requests
Rate limiting is applied to API endpoints (200 requests/hour for anonymous users)
