Job organizational context:

The Health Specialist GJP is to be used in a large Country Office (CO) where the Representative is at the D2 level and the Health Programme is a component of the Country Programme (or UNDAF).

Purpose for the job:

The Health Specialist (Emergency) reports to the Chief of Health for general guidance and supervision. S/He is responsible for supporting the Chief in managing the health section and leading the management, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of the health programme (e.g gender, maternal, neonatal, child survival/development) within the country programme, specifically related to Health in Emergencies. S/He provides technical guidance and operational support throughout the programming process to facilitate the achievement of concrete and sustainable results, according to plans, allocation, results based-management approaches and methodology (RBM), organizational Strategic Plans and goals, standards of performance, and accountability framework.

To qualify a champion for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education: Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in public health, health emergencies/ epidemiology or another relevant technical field.
Work Experience: A minimum of eight years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required: public health planning and/or management, maternal and neonatal health care, or health emergency/humanitarian preparedness. Relevant experience working in a humanitarian situation is required.
Skills: Health care, humanitarian experience, partnership building, monitoring and evaluation.
Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.

Desirables:

Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.
Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
Experience with multilateral organizations, health cluster coordination, field experience in humanitarian emergencies is an asset.
Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
