The humanitarian and operational context in Venezuela continues to be characterized by high levels of complexity and structural fragility, with persistent challenges in access to basic services, food security, health, protection, and human mobility. These challenges disproportionately affect children, adolescents, and women, limiting community coping capacities and requiring sustained preparedness and a highly coordinated humanitarian response.

UNICEF is also supporting the humanitarian response to the recent earthquake in Venezuela, which has affected vulnerable populations and disrupted access to essential services, livelihoods, and social support systems. In line with its mandate to protect the rights and wellbeing of children and their families, UNICEF is working with government counterparts, United Nations agencies, civil society organizations, and other humanitarian partners to deliver timely and coordinated assistance.

UNICEF Venezuela is currently responding to an L2 Emergency due to two earthquakes that affected more than 7 states. Venezuela CO was already in L1 status attending live saving interventions. The current context requires additional support to Finance and Budget team to ensure delivery of day to day activities to all sectors and internally within the team. Also, UNICEF Venezuela CPD is in the process of being extended and will still be implemented through technical cooperation, capacity building, supply delivery, and communication and advocacy strategies aiming to strengthen national capacity in the areas of Nutrition, Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Protection and Education.

How can you make a difference?

The Finance and Accounts Assistant is responsible for executing a broad variety of budget and transactional/financial tasks for the respective section(s) requiring thorough knowledge of UNICEF budget and financial procedures, processes and policies.

In this capacity, the need to project the image of a credible and reliable service provider is imperative to quality of process delivery, and the impact of work directly reflects on the overall reputation of the team in terms of responsiveness to client needs and quality of process execution.

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education: Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the field of work. For this position, a bachelor’s degree in finance/ administration/ Budget/ Accounting from a recognized academic institution in a relevant field may replace three years of related work experience.
Work Experience: A minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, budgeting, administration or related areas is required.
Skills: Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook is required.
Attention to detail and ability maintaining accurate records to work under pressure during emergency operations are required.
Language Requirements: Fluency in Spanish is required.

Desirables:

Language: Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian).
Basic level in English is desirable.
Experience in supporting financial transactions, document management and data entry is desirable.
Experience in working with ERP systems such as SAP is desirable.
Experience with Power BI, Power Apps and other digital tools is an asset.
Previous experience with United Nations or an international organization is an asset.
Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
