Southern Madagascar is struggling with environmental degradation and prolonged dry periods as well as scarce rainfall, cyclones and flooding, while children in Madagascar are amongst the most vulnerable in the world to these impacts. In recent years, a series of cyclones — Honde, Jude, among others — have destroyed local infrastructures such as schools, health centers and water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure. Families there face high levels of poverty, malnutrition and malaria, low vaccination coverage, and serious risks for children, including early marriage and dropping out of school.

Children in the Anosy region of Southern Madagascar face a range of child protection risks, including violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation. According to MICS 2025, 45% of women aged 20–24 years were married before the age of 18, 20% of children aged 5–17 years are engaged in child labour, and 19% of children under five are not registered at birth. UNICEF works to ensure that children in southern Madagascar are protected from violence, exploitation, abuse, and harmful practices, including child labour and child marriage. Through community-based child protection mechanisms, case management services, and awareness-raising activities, UNICEF supports the identification and referral of vulnerable children to appropriate services.

Minimum requirements

Education: A Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in International Development, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Social Science, Human Rights, International Law and any other related fields is required.
Work Experience: At least 1 year of relevant work experience in Child Protection, Social Development Planning and Management, Programme Management, Partnership Development, Capacity Building, Community Engagement, Social Policy, Reporting, Advocacy and any other related fields is required.
Skills: Experience in Emergency, Case Management, Programme Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Capacity Building, and Partnerships are required.
Language Requirements: Fluency in French and Malagasy and working level in English is required.

Desirables

Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
Having experience at a developing country level and humanitarian experience are considered strong assets.
Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
