Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) is one of the world's most active centres for conference diplomacy. UNOG is also the largest UN Office after Headquarters in New York and is the site of many historic negotiations. UNOG is housed at the Palais des Nations, which was built in 1936 as the Headquarters of the League of Nations. The internship is located in the Vacancy Management Unit of the Human Resources Management Service, United Nations Office at Geneva. HRMS provides services to approximately 3,500 staff members in more than 30 client departments and offices located in Geneva and in field offices worldwide. The Vacancy Management Unit (VMU) provides HR expertise on talent acquisition, management and retention, workforce planning, job evaluation and career development to hiring managers and staff of UNOG and other client entities in UN Geneva. The intern will report to a Human Resources Officer. The services of the intern align with VMU's main goals to support the full cycle of talent acquisition, management and retention and conduct effective outreach to attain the Secretariat's targets of gender parity, geographical balance and diversity and inclusion. Our team is seeking creative and dynamic individuals to contribute to HR, outreach and communication projects. The intern will bring innovative ideas and effectively leverage social media and other digital tools to promote UN Geneva as an employer of choice. Daily responsibilities may vary depending on the selected intern's skills and on HRMS' priorities and needs and may include: - Conducting research on a diverse range of issues using multiple sources and preparing background material; - Assisting team members with various HR projects and networks, using creativity and out-of-the-box approaches to disseminating information and establishing partnerships with Agencies, Funds and Programmes and other stakeholders; - Assisting in conducting outreach on selected platforms. - Presenting visual concepts and ideas in a compelling and attractive manner; - Developing visual solutions derived from multiple data sources to enable insight and decision making at various levels; - Assisting in designing, organizing and managing the collection and analysis of statistical data to support recruitment and outreach strategies and activities; - Monitoring social media analytics and proposing data-driven improvements; - Showing initiative and proposing new ways to coordinate and streamline the work of the team especially in the digital outreach space. - Exploring how AI-generated tools can be utilized in daily operations to improve efficiency and streamline workflows, in accordance with UN rules and regulations.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Ability to use innovative approaches to HR and related fields is desirable. Experience in using data analytics and visualization tools, such as Excel and Power BI. Experience in creating materials for communication and outreach campaigns using content creation and design tools, such as Adobe Premium, Canva, and AI-assisted applications, is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening fluency in English is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
