Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. UN-Habitat is the focal point for all urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. Established in 2005, UN-Habitat Egypt has managed to build a strong partnership with the government, civil society, donors and various stakeholders, while moving forward with our vision to pilot new planning approaches and techniques that can support a more sustainable urbanization process. UN-Habitat works closely with the Egyptian Government (GoE) and local stakeholders to ensure conscious support to national visions and priorities while advancing the alignment and progress towards organizational objectives and the UN-Habitat Domains of Change. The programme in Egypt is supporting the GoE towards more effective implementation of the New Urban Agenda (NUA), by linking urbanization to development, to capture the positive values and wealth created by the urbanization process. UN-Habitat Egypt currently has three sub-programmes; Urban Planning and Design, Urban Policies, Legislation And Governance, and Basic Services and Climate Change. Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Basic Services and Climate Change Programme (UN Habitat Egypt Office) and reporting to the BSCC Programme Assistant, the intern will undertake the following duties: 1. Provide effective programme management support to the team’s portfolio including sustainable mobility, climate change adaptation, and water and sanitation:
- Assist with in-the-field continuous testing of the Cairo Bike project through weekly site visits and producing documentation (photographic and written)
- Assist in coordinating with counterparts including the Cairo Governorate, the private operator, and relevant NGOs.
- Support development of concept notes for innovative new projects and conducting supporting research and stakeholder interviews.
- Draft a visibility and communication plan of the programme.
- Assist in the potential events organization and planning.
- Assist in processing and collecting data as needed.
- Conduct necessary research for literature reviews, market research and for problem solving as needed. 2. Provide operational and administrative support to the Programme:
- Draft meeting minutes and agenda items as needed.
- Assist in proofreading and editing programme documents.
