Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Statistics and Data Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. The Associate Statistician reports to the Division Director. This position is available on a part-time basis (50%). The position is initially available for a period of three months, with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Associate Statistician will be responsible for the following duties:
- Assists in training and technical support on data collection programmes, country practices and other related information in the area of climate change, environment and sustainable development
- Assists in the organization of workshops, seminars, working groups, expert meeting and technical assistance activities.
- Assists in the development or revision of guidelines, tools, e-learning resources, standards on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research.
- Prepares draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assists in drafting relevant reports and communication materials.
- Guides, trains and supervises general service and professional staff in the function.
- Contributes to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provides draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
- Assists in designing, organizing, planning and managing the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical data.
- Assists in developing, implementing and managing statistical database(s).
- Performs other duties as assigned
