Duties and Responsibilities

The internship is UNPAID and interns works 5 days per week. Under the direct supervision of the Alternative Development Programme Lead, the Intern will support the implementation and coordination of Alternative Development activities aimed at promoting sustainable livelihoods and reducing reliance on illicit crop cultivation. Responsibilities include: (1) Supporting data collection, consolidation, and basic analysis related to livelihoods, agriculture, gender inclusion, environmental sustainability, and community development; (2) Assisting in drafting and editing programme documents, including activity reports, briefing notes, presentations, and inputs for donor reporting; (3) Contributing to communication and visibility efforts by drafting success stories, summaries, newsletters, and outreach materials highlighting programme achievements; (4) Supporting coordination and communication with national counterparts, local authorities, and community-based organizations, as appropriate; (5) Assisting with monitoring programme progress and documenting lessons learned, good practices, and implementation challenges; (6) Providing administrative and operational support, including document preparation, filing, record-keeping, scheduling, and internal coordination; and (7) Performing other tasks as required in support of programme objectives.

Qualifications/special skills

The basic education required is HS Diploma; Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Be computer literate in standard software applications; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred fields of study include Environmental Science, Forestry, Agroforestry, Sustainable Agriculture, International Development, Law, Political Science, International Relations, Economics, or related disciplines. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
