Duties and Responsibilities

This internship is UNPAID and interns work full time (40 hours per week). The internship is located at UNODC ROSEAP, Bangkok. Under the supervision of the Regional Representative, the Intern will support work related to transnational organized crime. Key tasks include:

  • Conduct desk research and data collection on transnational organized crime trends, including drug trafficking, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, wildlife crime, arms trafficking, money laundering, and other illicit flows in the region.
  • Monitor and summarize relevant news, reports, and publications on organized crime developments in Southeast Asia and the Mekong sub-region, and prepare regular briefing notes for the Regional Representative.
  • Support the preparation of analytical reports, policy briefs, strategic notes, and presentations on transnational organized crime issues for internal and external audiences.
  • Assist in reviewing and tracking international and regional legal frameworks, conventions, and policy developments related to transnational organized crime, including the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its Protocols.
  • Assist in the preparation and organization of high-level meetings, inter-agency consultations, and regional conferences, including drafting agendas, background documents, talking points, and meeting summaries.
  • Support coordination and liaison with Member States, regional bodies, and partner agencies on matters related to transnational organized crime, as directed by the Regional Representative.
  • Draft correspondence, briefing materials, and internal communications on behalf of the Regional Representative's Office.
  • Provide general research, analytical, and administrative support to the Regional Representative's Office and undertake other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Preferred fields of study include: international policing studies, criminology, investigation or a closely related field. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
