Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located at the ECLAC Subregional Headquarters for the Caribbean, located in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago and covers 25 countries and territories of the Caribbean. The position focuses on regional integration, trade and finance. The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief, the Economic Affairs Officer will carry out the following duties: ECONOMIC AND/OR SECTOR ANALYSIS:

  • Monitors economic developments with respect to regional integration, trade, urban development and development finance and identifies recurrent and emerging issues of concern to small developing economies and drafts policy recommendations.
  • Conducts and coordinates research and analytical studies on regional integration, trade, urban development and development finance, paying particular attention to the regional integration process in the Caribbean.
  • Monitors macro-economic performance and provides analyses and proposals for structural transformation of small developing economies.
  • Engages senior policy makers on policy options to address ongoing macroeconomic, regional integration, trade and development finance challenges faced by Caribbean States.
  • Designs, conducts and drafts reports on studies of selected issues in regional integration, trade, development finance and economic development as they relate to small states.
  • Applies macroeconomic and econometric modelling techniques to analyse and interpret the economic prospects and policies of small states.
  • Organizes expert group meetings and seminars on development issues.
  • Prepares speeches and other inputs for presentations by senior staff.
  • Provides policy advice and guidance to stakeholders, as they relate to small developing countries, on regional integration, trade and development finance issues and prospects, based on solid analytical approaches.
  • Attend and present at major international, regional and national meetings and to hold discussions with representatives of other institutions. INTERGOVERNMENTAL SUPPORT:
  • Provides substantive support on economic issues to intergovernmental bodies, such as the Caribbean Development and Cooperation Committee (CDCC), national officials and cooperation institutions, through preparation of policy reports on regional integration, trade and finance, development of policy ...
