The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund was established in 1949 by the United Nations General Assembly to provide retirement, death, disability, and related benefits for staff of the United Nations and other member organizations of the Fund. UNJSPF administers benefits of more than 90,000 beneficiaries residing in more than 190 countries, paid in 18 currencies, and services more than 130,000 participants who work in the 25 member organizations of UNJSPF. The Fund has offices in New York (United States) and Geneva (Switzerland) and two liaison offices in Nairobi (Kenya) and Bangkok (Thailand), respectively. The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund-Pension Administration (UNJSPF-PA) comprises around 280 staff from diverse countries and cultures, based across four prominent duty stations (New York, Geneva, Bangkok, and Nairobi). This temporary position is located in the Data Analysis Unit (DAU) within the Office of the Deputy Chief Executive of Pension Administration (DCEPA) of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund-Pension Administration (UNJSPF-PA). The Chief of the Data Analysis Unit will report to the Deputy Chief Executive of Pension Administration, and the position is based in New York.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Chief of the Data Analysis Unit will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Plan and direct the Unit's work programme on statistical analysis and methodological work, providing both technical and managerial supervision of all activities.
  • Initiate, plan and direct preparation of Fund-wide data reports, publications, and other communications.
  • Plan and direct technical advisory activities and support the Chief Executive of Pension Administration and the Deputy Chief Executive of Pension Administration in managing the data analysis of the Fund.
  • Supervise and undertake the development of new or improved data analysis methods and models for analyses and projects.
  • Prepare progress reports and other technical documentation regarding the work programme for presentation to relevant bodies and committees.
  • Advise senior management on data trends and developments, advise on effects of potential changes, and recommend appropriate courses of action.
  • Plan, organize and manage staff; plan and discuss individual work programmes with staff and evaluate their performance.
