Duties and Responsibilities

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Please visit our website at www.eclac.org for further information. The internship at the ECLAC Washington Office will last between two and six months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected on an as-needed basis throughout the posting period. Under the supervision and overall guidance of the Office’s Director and other staff members, the intern will support the Office’s research agenda and contribute to ongoing analytical and operational activities. Duties will include, but are not limited to: - Conduct research on topics such as access to international financing for sustainable development, trade and geopolitical developments and their implications for Latin America and the Caribbean, and financial and macroeconomic trends affecting the region’s economic development. - Conduct literature reviews to assess the current state of research and its implications for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). - Summarize, synthesize, and analyze relevant academic papers, policy reports, and publications. - Collect and compile information from official country sources, specialized agencies, and other relevant databases. - Review, organize, and analyze collected data and information; prepare reports; update Office databases; and develop supporting tables, graphs, charts, and references. - Participate in team meetings and discussions and contribute to ongoing analytical work. - Attend relevant conferences, webinars, and seminars, and prepare briefing notes or summaries as needed. - Provide support for the day-to-day activities of the Office, as required.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
